Life

Alek Sandar was born in Bulgaria, grew up in Germany and has lived in New York , USA since 2009 . He is co-founder of the Berlin dance / pop music label Splendid Sounds Records and has also produced music for Universal Music Germany , Payner Music Bulgaria and other international labels. In 2010 and 2011 Alek Sandar produced the album "Beast" for the German artist Oscar Loya . Alek has also produced remixes for Frankmusik (UK), Jérémy Amelin (France), Kimbra (Australia), Andrea and Dess / Desislava (Bulgaria). In 2012, Alek Sandar founded the songwriting group Boyplay together with the Japanese-American artist Ansoni. Together they produced "It Ain't Over" and "You ad Me", a duet with the Bulgarian singer Desislava DESS aka Desi Slava, who is considered to be one of the greatest voices in contemporary Bulgarian music. In 2014 Alek Sandar released his debut EP "Meteors" on the international market.

Childhood and youth

Alek Sandar was born on June 13, 1987 in the Bulgarian capital Sofia. At the early age of 5 he learned to play the piano and was part of the Bulgarian children's band "Radiodeca" (Radiochildren). At the age of eight, he wrote his first song: a ballad that he dedicated to his sister. In the same year, Alek Sandar made his first appearance on the renowned TV show Kato Luvovete (Like The Lions) in front of a national audience. In the following years, Alek was the Bulgarian dubbing voice for "Roo" in "Disney's Pooh Bear". In 1995 Alek moved with his family to Oldenburg, Germany, where his father is still active as an opera singer. In Oldenburg, Alek Sandar took acting lessons and played leading roles in productions of the Oldenburg State Theater. As a teenager, Alek set up his first recording studio at home. After graduating from high school, he studied international business management at the Berlin School of Economics and Law, École supérieure du commerce extérieur Paris and Baruch College, New York.

Career start (Splendid Sounds)

At the age of 17 Alek composed two pop songs for the Serbian-Bulgarian pop folk diva Reni. Encouraged by his first international success, he moved to Berlin , where he met Jonathan Wuermeling. They founded the electro-pop duo Splendid Sounds in 2008 and appear in various Berlin nightclubs. Splendid Sounds released the album "Scream" in 2009. Then the French record company X-Cite Records got in touch with Alek Sandar and he produced a Splendid Sounds remix for the French Star Academy singer Jérémy Amelin. In 2010 Alek Sandar produced further songs for Balkan singer Reni and a remix for Bulgarian singer Andrea. At the same time, Alek is working closely with the German singer Oscar Loya on his debut album "Beast". Oscar gained international popularity when he represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009. Alek produces ten songs for "Beast". Two years later, "Learn Something New", one of these tracks, was re-released (January 2013) with a remix bundle by the music label Citrusonic Stereophonic (Los Angeles). In 2011 Alek Sandar and Jonathan Wuermeling founded the independent record company Splendid Sounds Records. In the same year Alek produced a remix for Cherrytree singer Frankmusik and Far East Movement , which was published by Universal Music Germany .

2012 – today

Only when he founded Splendid Sounds Records did Alek Sandar begin his career as a solo singer under the pseudonym "Alek Sandar". He is directing the official music video of his debut single "Creature In Me" (2012) . For the video, Alek worked with New York avant-garde performers, Cirque du Soleil artists, fashion designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen . The video made a huge impact in Bulgaria, where the leading Bulgarian newspaper 24 Chasa wrote that "Alek Sandar has reached an artistic level that no other Bulgarian artist has achieved". In June 2012, Alek Sandar opened the New York Music Festival and performed at the New Music Seminar in Webster Hall, New York. He is the first Bulgarian artist to take part in this festival. That same month, Alek won an international remix competition for Australian singer Kimbra . In autumn 2012 Alek Sandar released "I Adore You" and "It Ain't Over", a duet with DESS aka Desi Slava, who is currently considered to be one of the greatest voices in Bulgarian contemporary music. Both songs rose to top positions on leading national pop radio stations. "Alek Sandar and Dess write music history", report leading Bulgarian media. The duet with DESS is a collaboration between Alek Sandar and Ansoni, a New York music producer and composer. In the summer of 2013, the follow-up title "You and Me" was released, for which the duo was nominated for the audience award of the music channel Box TV in 2014. A media scandal occurs when the television station decides not to give the award to Alek Sandar and Dess, despite a clear majority of the audience, because allegedly several artists tried to manipulate the vote.

In January 2014 Alek Sandar released his debut EP "Meteors" with the pilot single "Say That You Love Me", which he presented first in Bulgaria and then in Germany at the concert "Classic Meets Pop", one of the musical highlights of Northwest Germany. In February Alek sings his duet "Peaceful Place" with Balkan sensation Andrea at the annual Planeta TV Awards. With the song the artists start a campaign for the observance of human rights and dedicate "Peaceful Place" to the oppressed minorities in Ukraine, Russia, Venezuela and Syria. A large number of international media, including CNN, report on the artists' actions. In an interview, Alek Sandar says that he and Andrea would have ended up in prison if the song and video had been released in Russia like this. In the video you can see Alek and Andrea holding up the LGBT flag in a Sofia gypsy slum.

Life in New York

Alek Sandars international appearances in New York, London, Las Vegas, Berlin and Sofia as well as his extravagant video clips make him one of the most discussed figures in Bulgaria, where the media call him "the male Gaga". Even if he does not describe himself and his work as extraordinarily "avant-garde", Bulgarian television and newspapers often categorize him as eccentric and scandalous due to his eccentric video clips, extensive night life and performances and his close relationships to the New York personalities Amanda Lepore , Richie Rich, Susanne Bartsch and Yozmit.
