The stinging nettle is a cinema in Hemsbach on the mountain road and an integral part of the cultural life of the Rhine-Neckar .

Films have been shown here since 1927. Initially, the cinema was called Union Lichtspiele , and it was given the current name Brennessel in 1982.

The nettle has two halls. Hall 1 has 120 seats, 48 ​​of which are divided into two-seaters. Room 2 has 45 seats.

The nettle has always felt committed to culturally demanding films. In addition to the regular film screening, events with directors and actors are also offered. Furthermore, the Brennessel offers children's cinema and works with schools and other cultural and social institutions. In addition, the cinema offers the "summer cinema" every year, in which selected films are shown again.

The Brennessel Programmkino has already received several awards for its outstanding annual film program, including from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media from 1997 to 2007 and from the Baden-Württemberg Media and Film Society from 1997 and 1999 to 2007.

The stinging nettle is a member of the working group Kino - Gilde deutscher Filmkunsttheater .
