Brian Crowley ( Irish Brian Mac Amhlaidh , born March 4, 1964 in Dublin ) is an Irish politician and was a member of the European Parliament from 1994 to 2019 .

Crowley was born in Dublin in 1964 as one of six children of Irish politician Florence Crowley and grew up in Bandon , County Cork . He studied law at University College Cork , where he received his degree in 1993.

From 1993 to 1994 he was a senator in the Seanad Éireann and government spokesman for justice, equality and legal reform. From 1997 to 2004 Crowley was a member of the Irish Council of State .

In July 1994 he was elected to the European Parliament for the first time for the Fianna Fáil in the constituency of Southern Ireland and then stepped down as Senator on August 31. Crowley was a member of the European Parliament without interruption until 2019. In June 2014 he moved from the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe to the Group of European Conservatives and Reformers and was then expelled from the Fianna Fáil. Crowley has been on sick leave since 2014 and has not attended any European Parliament meetings since.
