Brian Ross

Brian Ross is an American television journalist. He became internationally known after he was given leave of absence from his broadcaster ABC after a false report he had spread about the Russia connections of Trump confidant and former national security advisor  Michael Flynn .

Life

Brian Ross graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Journalism in 1971 . He then worked for KWWL-TV  in Waterloo, Iowa. He later moved to WCKT-TV  in Miami, Florida and WKYC-TV  in Cleveland, Ohio before becoming a correspondent for NBC News  in 1975 . Before joining ABC News in 1994, he worked for the NBC Network.

Ross has been criticized for false reports throughout his career. According to the BBC, he had u. a. claims that the bomber at a Colorado movie theater had ties to a group of the Conservative Tea Party movement.

Flynn 2017 hoax

On December 1, 2017, former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn pleaded guilty in court of lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia. Ross also reported that Flynn would testify in court that Trump asked him to contact Moscow during the election campaign. Trump only approached Flynn with this request after he had already won the election. The incorrect report caused Wall Street stock prices to fluctuate.

ABC corrected Ross' report a little later. In fact, ABC News said its source said Trump's instruction came during the transition period between the November 2016 presidential election and taking office in late January 2017.

ABC News deeply regretted the mistake and apologized; Ross' report did not undergo the usual scrutiny at ABC. The broadcaster suspended Ross for four weeks. On Twitter, he admitted his mistake and found his punishment to be right: "My job is to hold people accountable, and therefore I agree if I am held accountable myself." Less than an hour after the statement, Trump tweeted for welcoming ABC's decision.
