Brian Simpson , OBE (born before 1980) is a British graduate civil engineer in geotechnical engineering .

He is a Senior Engineer and a Director at Arup Geotechnics (Ove Averup & Partners Ltd.) in London and an Arup Fellow. He also holds an honorary professorship at the University of Nottingham .

It deals with practical applications of geotechnical engineering in support structures (such as excavations, retaining walls) and tunnels, including numerical modeling. From the 1980s he had a leading role in the development of Eurocode 7 in the field of geotechnical engineering and was Vice-President of the and British representative in the corresponding European Committee CEN (Comité Européen de Normalization) for SC 7. He is in the British Committee for Geotechnical Standardization and headed the Technical Committee (TC) 205 of ISSMGE (Safety and serviceability in geotechnical engineering). He wrote a comment on Eurocode 7.

In 1992 he was a Rankine Lecturer (Retaining structures: displacement and design). In 2009 he held the ISSMGE's state-of-the-art report on geotechnical analysis and design.
