Brick film

Brickfilms (of English .: Brick (block)) are films with Lego characters (or generally with Lego blocks) that using the stop-motion have been created technique.

In order to create a brick film, motion sequences are recorded in single images and result in a fluid movement when played back quickly. The first films were made back in the 1980s, but the brick film fan scene emerged with the introduction of the Lego Studio Set from Lego . The materials to make a film (building blocks and figures) are mostly available.

The first brick film was made in Denmark in 1973 and was produced by Lars C. Hassing. "En rejse til månen (Journey to the Moon)" was shot on Super 8 and was released on May 15, 2013 on YouTube . The second brick film "Lego Wars" was created in 1980 by Fernando Escovar. This 3-minute movie was released on YouTube on April 2, 2007.

1985 "Legomation - The Original" was produced by the two Americans Dave Lennie and Andrew Boyer.

"The Magic Portal" was produced from 1985 to 1989 by the Australian Lindsay Fleay. This brick film is 16 minutes long, which was rather unusual then as now.

The first brick film to be released worldwide was a music video for the dance act "Ethereal" and their song "Zap". This clip was produced and released in 1989 and was broadcast on MTV and other music channels.

In 1994 the director Alex Lotz produced "Lego Hangman". This is considered the first brick film from Germany and was published on December 9, 2012 on YouTube.

Meanwhile, numerous of these films can be found on the Internet , very few of them are made on a childlike level. Many adults let themselves be inspired by the trick brick films.

The Steinerei is an annual brick film festival. A well-known brick film is Die Helden von Bern . Also known is the award-winning music video for Fell in Love with a Girl ( The White Stripes ; Production: Michel Gondry ).
