The heroes of Bern is the name of a brick film made by three students from the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences in 2002. It is an 11-minute animation with Lego figures of the highlights of the 1954 World Cup final .

content

In 1954, the German national soccer team traveled to Switzerland for the World Cup as an absolute outsider. Thanks to Sepp Herberger's tactical masterpieces and an outstanding form of the team around captain Fritz Walter , the German team reached the final. There they have to compete with the Hungarians who have been unbeaten for four years. The legendary final game is the subject of the animation film , which looks at this historical event from a very special point of view.

The makers

In 2002 the three students Florian Plag, Martin Seibert and Ingo Steidl created the animated film “The Heroes of Bern” as a term paper. As part of the animation laboratory, they made a Lego animation, which they underlaid with Herbert Zimmermann's comment .

movie theater

In order to revive the old tradition of the short film , those responsible carried out a non-commercial theatrical release in 2003. Thanks to some sponsors, an exposure on 35 mm film could be realized. A large number of copies were made, which were shown nationwide in selected cinemas.
