Briquet syndrome is the historical name in psychotherapy and neurosis for a polysymptomatic type of hysteria . This form is classified under the somatization disorders in the DSM-IV and is characterized by rapidly changing symptoms .

The term was ultimately replaced by that of hysteria. The psychiatrist Samuel B. Guze introduced this distinction and differentiated pseudoneurological conversion symptoms from those of hysteria, which, in his opinion, are based on a variety of symptoms and do not coincide with the histrionic personality disorder .

In Germany this type overlaps with the psycho-vegetative disorder and the functional syndromes .

In the ICD-10-GM version 2016 , the disease is assigned the code F45.0 . or the code F45.0 denotes the subcategory somatization disorder .

In the DSM-IV, the Briquet syndrome is listed under the somatoform disorders . In the current diagnostic manual, DSM-V , Briquet syndrome is assigned to the category of somatic stress disorder and related disorders .
