Bristol-Myers Squibb Award

The Bristol Myers Squibb Award is a series of research prizes awarded since 1977 as part of the “Freedom to Discover” program of the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation, first in cancer research, then also in the fields of nutrition science (1980), neuroscience (1988), Cardiovascular Diseases (1991), Infectious Diseases (1991), Synthetic Organic Chemistry (1998) and Metabolic Diseases (2000). The following are awarded annually in these essential research fields of the pharmaceutical company:

  • a Freedom to Discover Unrestricted Biomedical Research Grant of at least $ 500,000. The award-winning institution and its leading scientist should work on a non-profit basis and have an international reputation in their respective fields. As a rule, the scholarships should be used to promote young scientists and for new studies.
  • a Distinguished Achievement Award in the research fields listed above. It is endowed with $ 50,000 and a silver medal. The winners of the Unrestricted Research Grant belong to the selection committee in their respective research areas.
