The British Canoe Union (BCU) is the national governing body for canoeing in the United Kingdom .

The BCU develops standards for certified training programs and accredits the instructors for these training programs. She also organizes competitive canoeing in the UK and sends national teams to international competitions.

The BCU is a member of the International Canoe Association and the European Canoe Association .

The BCU offices are located in the Pierrepont Watersports Center in Nottingham .

The president of the BCU is Albert Woods , who is also the head of the European association.

history

The BCU is the oldest canoe association in the world. The BCU was first founded in 1887 and lasted for about 30 years. It was not until 1933 that the association was brought back to life.

In March 1936, representatives from the Canoeing Division of the Camping Club , Clyde Canoe Club , Manchester Canoe Club, and Royal Canoe Club formed the BCU.
