British Chess Problem Society

The British Chess Problem Society (BCPS) is an association for problem chess founded in 1918 . It is the oldest association of its kind in the world. Since 1926 it has published the magazine The Problemist and since 1992 its supplement The Problemist Supplement .

The aim of the BCPS is to promote chess composition. It organizes the official British chess solving tournament and selects the team to compete in the World Chess Solving Championship for Great Britain .

The Problemist magazine was founded in 1926 and appears bimonthly. The Problemist Supplement , which is primarily aimed at beginners, has existed since 1992 . Recurring rubrics are the publication of original tasks, position reconstruction tasks based on solutions, selected problems, book presentations and reviews, price reports and reports on BCPS activities.

President

Christopher Cedric Lytton is currently (June 2010) President of the BCPS. Previous Presidents, in alphabetical order, were Barry Peter Barnes , J. G. Grevatt, Christopher Jones , R. Tony Lewis, Michael Lipton , Robin Matthews , Jeremy Morse , Arthur Christopher Reeves, John Rice , Colin Albert Harry Russ, Donald A. Smedley, Adam Sobey, Brian Stephenson , Colin Sydenham and Paul Valois .
