John Rice (chess composer)

John Rice (born July 19, 1937 ) is a British chess composer . From 2002 to 2006 he was President of the Permanent Commission for Chess Composition at FIDE (PCCC).

In the mid-1950s he was working on two-pass mate problems. In the 1960s he became a clerk for British Chess Magazine . In the mid-1980s he became President of the British Chess Problem Society , for whose magazine The Problemist he was a contributor in 1999.

Rice has been International Chess Composition Master since 1969, International Chess Composition Referee since 1972, and Chess Composition Grand Master since 2015 . He led the British championship in solving chess problems several times.

Private

Rice is married; the couple has two sons.
