Ernest Lewonowitsch Pogosjanz

Ernest Lewonowitsch Pogosjanz ( Russian Эрнест Левонович Погосянц , scientific transliteration Ernest Levonovič Pogosjanc ; born June 5, 1935 in Tschuhujiw , Kharkiv Oblast ; † August 16, 1990 in Moscow ) was a Soviet chess composer .

Chess composition

Pogosjanz was one of the most productive composers. Since 1958 he has published over 6100 studies and 1100 chess problems. Many of them were published in regional newspapers and magazines and so remained largely unknown to the chess world. Sometimes his compositions appeared in regional newspapers in notation without a diagram, for example as a ransom competition. In Schachmaty w SSSR alone, 6 of his studies appeared monthly as analysis and endgame training under the heading School of Analysis .

Ernest Pogosjanz composed numerous miniatures and Fünfsteiner. He strived for effective solutions with the most economical use of resources and adhered to the principles of classical composition whenever possible. In 1988 he became the Grand Master of Chess Composition .

Ernest Pogosjanz taught mathematics.

As a somewhat naive young man, he was imprisoned for criticizing KGB boss Alexander Schelepin . As a result, drug treatments, which he had to endure in a psychiatric hospital, he suffered all his life to sleep . These experiences did not prevent him from remaining true to his communist ideals.
