Solution:

1. Ka2 – a3 !!
This move is already the study idea. It seems more natural to move the king in the direction of the opposing h-pawn, but on move 5 it turns out that the b3-square is needed for something else. If Black wins the knight, White gets into the square of the h-pawn in good time .
1.… Ke7 – e6!
2. Nh7 – f8 +! Ke6 – f5
3. Nf8 – d7 h6 – h5
4. Nd7 – c5! h5 – h4
5. Nc5 – b3 !! h4 – h3
6. Nb3 – d2 h3 – h2
6.… Kf4 7. Nf1 Kf3 8. Kb4 Kf2 9. Nh2 Kg2 10. Ng4 Kg3 11. Ne3 h2 12. Nf1 + also with a draw.
7. Nd2 – f1 h2 – h1D
8. Nf1 – g3 + and the knight managed to catch the pawn in time.

author

Gurgenidze published numerous books and booklets on endgames and studies. Lately he has made a name for himself by introducing the endgame theorists of the past and present in words and pictures as well as their achievements. He very often refers to the practical game.
