Jacobus Haring

Jacobus Haring (born March 30, 1913 in Hoorn ; †  February 25, 1989 in The Hague ) was a Dutch chess composer .

Life

Jacobus Haring learned to play chess from his older brothers when he was eight. He came to chess composition when he was 19. He specialized in two-moveers . Since 1964 he was an international judge for chess compositions . From 1965 to 1975 he was secretary of the Nederlandes bond van probleemvrienden , the Dutch problem chess association. In 1968, Haring wrote a chess composition for the Dutch writer Godfried Bomans , which depicted his initials. In 1990 he was posthumously awarded the title of Grand Master of Chess Composition by the PCCC . Until his retirement, Haring was a civil servant in the technical service of the Rijkswaterstaats , a Dutch building authority. He had been married since 1943 and died of cancer.

Chess composition

The Haring theme is named after him: In the seductions and the solution, the theme figures move back to their starting square on a black parade as a mating move.

A dozen studies are also known from Haring.
