Market Rasen is a market town in the District West Lindsey the English county of Lincolnshire . According to the 2001 census, it had 3230 inhabitants. Market Rasen is 18 miles east of Gainsborough , 14 miles northeast of Lincoln and 16 miles southwest of Grimsby on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds .
Cityscape and history
Market Rasen has a largely homogeneous brick architecture in the Georgian and Victorian styles. There is an old Gothic church on the market square.
With the 'Market Rasen Racecourse', Market Rasen owns a well-known horse racing track. The place is also known for its rugby and golf clubs. The city has its own newspaper, the weekly Market Rasen Mail , which was founded in 1856. The newspaper is published by the Johnston Press.
On February 27, 2008 at 12:56 am local time, an earthquake struck the region with an epicenter four kilometers north of Market Rasen. The quake with a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale was felt in Edinburgh , Plymouth , Bangor in Northern Ireland and in Haarlem in the Netherlands . It was the strongest quake in the UK since 1984.

Market Rasen is on the A46 ( Bath - Cleethorpes ) and the A631 which joins the A16 in Louth . The local station on the Grimsby - Lincoln - Newark line opened in 1848 and is now operated by East Midlands Railway . The nearest airport is Humberside Airport , 25 km to the north , which is also connected to the motorway ( M180 ).
school and education
The only school in Market Rasen is De Aston School , which was founded in 1863. It is a secondary school with students in 7th grade through sixth form .
De Aston is also a boarding school , which is also inhabited by foreign students.
