West Lindsey is a district in the county of Lincolnshire in England . The administrative seat is the city of Gainsborough . Other significant locations are Market Rasen , Cherry Willingham , Nettleham and Welton .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and resulted from the merger of the urban districts Gainsborough and Market Rasen and the rural districts Caistor and Welton. These previously all belonged to Lindsey , an administrative county from 1889 to 1974 .
The Fiskerton dugout canoes were found in the District .
