Lindsey as an administrative county (1888–1974)

Lindsey is one of the traditional parts of the territory of the county of Lincolnshire in England . The other areas are Holland and Kesteven .

The name goes back to the Kingdom of Lindsey from the time of the Heptarchy . The area was an administrative county from 1888 to 1974 . This was then dissolved like the administrative counties of Holland and Kesteven; the traditional county of Lincolnshire was given the status of an administrative county for the first time. However, the densely populated areas of Lindseys were assigned to the newly formed county of Humberside . This in turn was dissolved in 1996 ; their area was divided into two unitary authorities , namely North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire .

Lindsey was traditionally divided into three areas, so-called Ridings (West, North and South Riding).
