The county of Holland from 1888 to 1974

Holland is one of the three traditional areas of the county of Lincolnshire in England . The other areas are Lindsey and Kesteven .

Holland was an administrative county from 1888 to 1974 . This was then dissolved as well as the administrative counties of Lindsey and Kesteven; the traditional county of Lincolnshire was given the status of an administrative county for the first time. The name has been retained in the new South Holland district .

The area of Holland is very flat and has a high groundwater level; it is therefore quite swampy. Holland used to be divided into three so-called wapentakes , namely Elloe , Kirton and Skirbeck .
