Herbert Ahues

Herbert Siegfried Oskar Ahues (born March 2, 1922 in Berlin ; † July 11, 2015 in Bremen ) was a German chess composer and chess author.

Life

In his last collection of exercises, Ahues noted:

“The game of chess had a huge impact on my life even before I was born. My parents, both of whom are chess enthusiasts, met each other in the Berlin chess society. The result was that I saw the light of day on March 2, 1922 in Berlin. A few years later my father, Carl Ahues , not only won the title of Master of Germany, but also developed into a well-known international chess master ... "

At the beginning of the Second World War , Ahues studied law in Königsberg ; he was drafted into the armed forces at the age of 19. After the war he became a teacher in Bremen.

Chess composition

Herbert Ahues composed almost exclusively Zweizüger, he was one of the most productive German Zweizüger composers. He wrote more than 4000 assignments, 410 were awarded prizes, many published in FIDE albums . Here he got 96.33 points. For this he was awarded the title of International Master of Chess Composition by FIDE in 1976 and the title of Grand Master of Chess Composition in 1989 . As early as 1962 he was appointed International Chess Composition Judge.

These moves by the white rook block the way for your own queen to g7, which is why black Bg2 can move without disadvantage.

Groundbreaking in 1978 was his publication White Line Combinations with Thematic Seduction as a special edition of the magazine Die Schwalbe , in which he systematically classified the field of line combinations. In 1988 Ahues published 600 double moves in his work Meine Beste Schachprobleme. 600 selected two-moveers and 3 three-moveers .
