Mate in 2 moves

Template: checkerboard / maintenance / new

Solution:

Knight deductions (except 1. Nxd6) threaten 2. Qe4 mate. Eight knight deductions are possible ("knight wheel"), but only one leads to the goal. All others are only refuted by a black defense , which is not repeated in any variant.

1. Ng5! threatens 2. Qe4 mate, 1.… d5 2. Qf6 mate

It fails
first Sxg3? Kf4
1. Nf2? gxf2
1. Nd2 ? Ke6
1. Nc3? Kd4
1. Nc5? dxc5
1.Nxd6? g2
1. Nf6? d5

Private

Latzel was a senior tax advisor by profession.

In 1980 Latzel was at the FIDE conference in Wiener Neustadt . On his return he drove on the autobahn, where a traffic jam had developed in the Altmühltal. A horse panicked there and fatally kicked Latzel in the head in his car.
