Manfred Zucker
Manfred Zucker (born April 15, 1938 in Chemnitz ; † October 23, 2013 there ) was a chess composer , editor and chess player.
editor
In 1960, Zucker was one of the founding trio of the Schachecke in the regional newspaper Volksstimme (Karl-Marx-Stadt) , which merged with the Zwickauer Kreiszeitung Freie Presse on January 1, 1963 . The free press chess corner became known under its new name and, after the deaths of Herbert Küchler and Helmut Klug, was taken over entirely by Zucker. From April 1973 to 2000 he headed the Problems and Studies rubric in chess with great success . He had been the International Chess Composition Judge since 1972 and had around 100 appearances in this capacity, including twice for the FIDE albums.
In the last few years he took over the multi-trainer and self-mate department of the magazine for chess composition Problem-Forum as editor and appeared regularly as a speaker at the annual chess composers meetings in his region. Two of his lectures took him to Biel to see art chess friends in Switzerland. He has published over 50 specialist articles on composition in chess magazines .
Chess composition
Zucker was active as a composer since the 1950s. His first original, a self-mating in five moves, appeared in Schach magazine in 1956 . In 1983 he won the 2nd GDR championship in problem chess with a mate in seven moves. Self-mate and multi-migrants were among his favored directions, whereby he preferred strict economics in the use of resources. He also composed some studies .
