editor
Helmut Klug was a businessman by profession and worked as a photographer.
In 1960 he was one of the founding trio of the chess corner in the regional newspaper Volksstimme (Karl-Marx-Stadt) , which merged with the Zwickauer Kreiszeitung Freie Presse on January 1, 1963 . The free press chess corner became known under its new name and was continued by Manfred Zucker .

The photo was taken around 1963 and shows the composition of this commission at that time: Wolfgang Weber (1909–1981), Kurt Galke (1891–1971), Karl Pohlheim (1922–2014), Erwin Masanek (1926–2008) and Helmut Klug (1921–1921– 1981).
Chess composition
Klug learned to play chess as a child and turned to chess composition around 1954. The majority of his tasks were community work, which can be traced back to his organizational work.
