On October 20, 1957, the commission for problems and studies in the German Chess Federation was founded in his hometown , in which Klug worked for a long time. The photo was taken around 1963 and shows the composition of this commission at that time: Wolfgang Weber (1909–1981), Kurt Galke (1891–1971), Karl Pohlheim (1922–2014), Erwin Masanek (1926–2008) and Helmut Klug (1921–1921– 1981).

Chess composition

Klug learned to play chess as a child and turned to chess composition around 1954. The majority of his tasks were community work, which can be traced back to his organizational work.
