Hermann Albrecht (chess player)
Hermann Albrecht (born August 30, 1915 in Marburg ; † May 26, 1982 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a well-known German composer and author in chess . He created the Albrecht collection , a collection of two-trainers , which is famous in specialist circles .
Chess composition
Albrecht published his first chess problem in 1933. He composed mostly Zweizüger, about 120 pieces in total. After the Second World War , he reduced his composing activities in favor of his collection.

Albrecht Collection
Albrecht began collecting Zweizüger assignments in 1933. He wrote them down on index cards. Together with Karl Heublein, he created a classification system. This enabled him to find duplicates and predecessors. At his death this collection consisted of about 76,000 two-moveers (other sources speak of 83,000 tasks). This collection was taken over by Hans-Dieter Leiß (he continued the collection up to serial number 86.884) and later by Udo Degener and has since been transferred to a chess database .
author
Albrecht wrote many important articles on the subject of two-moveers, most of which were published in the journal Die Schwalbe . From 1938 to 1939 and again from 1946 to 1963 he was responsible for the two-move section in Die Schwalbe .
He acted as a judge for two-passers and received the title of International Arbitrator from FIDE in 1957 . From 1956 to 1958 he was responsible for the two-person section in the FIDE album .
Private
After studying German, English and history in Leipzig from 1935 to 1939, he pursued a higher civil service career in Dresden and Zwickau. In 1944 he was called up for military service. He fell into French captivity, where he actively composed chess problems. After his release in 1946, he first worked as an interpreter for the American armed forces, and from 1950 as an editor and translator for the AP news agency in Frankfurt am Main.
