Franz Pachl (born January 8, 1951 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German grandmaster for chess composition . He is a former German mini golf master .

Pachl started chess composition in 1975 after he encountered it through the problem part of the chess echo . Hermann Weißauer supported him in the following period and made sure that his first assignment was published. Pachl was initially interested in two-move and auxiliary mat tasks , and since 1988 by Markus Manhart also in fairy tale chess .

By December 2005, Pachl had published 848 compositions, including 193 award-winning works. 306 pieces were created together with other authors. In 1989 he was named International Master of Chess Composition . In September 2005 he was awarded the grandmaster title for chess composition with 81.42 points in FIDE albums . Since 1988 he has been the international referee for chess composition in the field of two-move and auxiliary mat tasks. Since 1984 he has acted as a judge over forty times.

At the World Championship for Chess Composition 2001-2003 he reached 3rd place in the auxiliary matt department and 6th place in fairy tale chess .

From 1994 Pachl was head of the two-person department of the Schwalbe and from 2000 of the auxiliary matting department of the magazine Problem-Forum . In March 2008 he took over a chess composition section in Rochade Europa as the successor to the surprisingly deceased Manfred Seidel . After discontinuing this section, he took over the multi-page section Problems and Studies of the magazine Schach from Udo Degener in April 2015 .

Franz Pachl is an official at the Chess Federation of Rhineland-Palatinate , Palatinate Chess Federation and SK Ludwigshafen in 1912.

Mini golf

From 1973 Pachl occupied himself with mini golf. In 1977 he became German individual champion and vice-champion in 1981 and 1982. He was team champion six times, including 1975 and 1977 with MGC Ludwigsburg.

Private

Pachl had completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk and worked as a commercial clerk at BASF for more than three decades .

He has been married since 1972 and has a son since 1975.
