Chess Federation Rhineland-Palatinate
The Chess Federation Rhineland-Palatinate eV (SBRP) was founded in 1973 in Mainz . He has around 5500 players in over 150 clubs. The SBRP is a member of the German Chess Federation and the State Sports Federation of Rhineland-Palatinate . President is Achim Schmitt ( Schweich ). The Chess Youth Rhineland-Palatinate is an independent youth organization .
The SBRP was created by renaming the Palatinate Chess Federation in Chess Federation Rhineland-Palatinate. The Rhineland Chess Association, which was previously affiliated to the Middle Rhine Chess Association, was added in April 1978. In October 1979 the newly founded Rheinhessen Chess Association was integrated. The SBRP did not take its final shape until 1982, when 14 clubs that had previously belonged to the Hessian Chess Association joined. The first president was Rudolf Schwind ( Rodalben ) from 1973 to 1981 , followed by Günther Müller ( Kettig ) from 1981 to 2004 .
Teams of the SBRP and the Saarland Chess Association play together in the Oberliga Südwest. The top division of the SBRP is the 1st Rhineland-Palatinate League, introduced in 1983. This includes the 2nd Rhineland-Palatinate League, created in 1991, divided into the North (Rhineland) and South (Rheinhessen and Palatinate) squadrons, followed by the leagues of the regional associations (Rhineland, Rheinhessen and Palatinate). The club with the largest number of members in the Rhineland-Palatinate Chess Federation is the SG Trier with 152 players (as of July 2009).
Individual championships are held from 1979, initially every 2 years, from 1986 annually. Until 2008, the individual championships were held in various groups (MTA, MTB, main tournament) as a round-robin tournament. In July 2009, the individual championship was held for the first time as an open tournament according to the Swiss system . 147 players took part, the winner was the Latvian grandmaster Zigurds Lanka , who played for TSV Schott Mainz , with 6.5 points from 7 rounds. Since Lanka is not eligible to play at the DSB level, the runner-up Torsten Dauenheimer (SV Worms) qualified for the German individual championship 2010.
