Rochade Europa (until June 1992: Europa-Rochade , then ISSN  0179-3934 , colloquially just called Rochade ) is a German-language chess magazine from Sömmerda in Thuringia , which appears monthly.

In addition to reports from the world of chess and permanent rubrics such as a puzzle corner, it stands out because it is the official announcement organ of most of the regional associations of the German Chess Federation . The area of chess composition in Rochade Europa has been continued since 2013 without professional support. One issue has almost 100 pages. Rochade-Verlag has also published a number of chess monographs.

In 2013 the magazine received a reprimand from the German Press Council for a violation of Section 9 of the Press Code (defamatory representation in words and pictures). The background was that Rochade Europa showed on its cover picture that an incontinent person had won a chess tournament despite their handicap. The press council complained that the wet trousers of the winner could be seen in the picture, this was defamatory for the winner.

editor

The magazine was founded in 1972 by Heinz Köhler in Maintal and published by himself. At the beginning of 1997 he handed the magazine and publishing house over to his son Carsten Köhler. In the summer of 1998 a move to Sömmerda in Thuringia followed . Heinz Köhler died on June 11, 2014 at the age of 82.

Since January 2015, the magazine has been published by Sensei Handels GmbH , based in Kernen, under Managing Director Lothar Hirneise. His son Tobias Hirneise has been editor-in-chief since February 2015. His son Jens Hirneise is also part of the editorial team; Carsten Köhler, however, withdrew.
