In 1973 the Serbian Chess Composition Commission founded the magazine Mat . This was edited from April 1974 to 1984 by Milan Velimirović. The magazine was discontinued in 1984.
The magazine MatPlus was founded in 1993 by several chess composers and appeared for the first time in the spring of 1994. From issue 2-4 / 1994 Velimirović took over the magazine and ran it until the end of 1999, which resulted from the poor economic situation.
During this time Velimirović wrote the chess solving program Mat Plus Librarian , which can be upgraded to the full version with a license key specified on the official website as "crack", but can also be used to its full extent without registration.
In 2006 Velimirović revived the magazine and from 2007 it was reissued. For economic reasons, the magazine was divided into the free “MatPlus” and subscription “MatPlus Review”. The previous count was retained so that "MatPlus" was continued with number 25. The last issue was MatPlus Review 42, in the meantime MatPlus had been discontinued.
Together with Kari Valtonen he published an encyclopedia of chess problems in English in 2012, which received positive reviews.
On February 25, 2013 Velimirović died after an illness.
