Piotr Murdzia (born February 20, 1975 in Gdansk ) is a Polish chess player and world champion in solving chess problems .

World championships

Murdzia was introduced to chess composition by Marcin Banaszek . He is a six-time world champion in solving chess problems. For the first time in world championships he took part in Rotterdam in 1991 and finished tenth. In 2001 in Wageningen he was vice world champion. He won his first world title in Portorož in 2002 . In 2004 in Kallithea (Chalkidiki) he came second again. He won his second world title in Eretria in 2005 and his third in Wageningen in 2006. In 2007 he was third in the world championship in Rhodes , and in 2008 in Jūrmala he won for the fourth time. In 2009 and 2012 he won the world title for the fifth and sixth time. With the Polish national team, he finished third at the 2001 World Cup in Wageningen, second in Wageningen in 2006 and third again in 2008 in Jūrmala. From 2009 to 2012, the Polish national team won the title four times in a row.

European championships

He took part in European championships four times. In 2005 in Legnica he became vice European champion. In 2006 in Warsaw he won the title. In 2007 in Pardubice he came third. In 2008 in Antalya he was again European champion. With the Polish national team, he finished third in 2007 in Pardubice.

Championships

He won so-called solving shows in 1998 in Saint Petersburg and in 2000 in Pula . He won open tournaments organized by the Permanent Commission of the FIDE for Chess Compositions (PCC) in Pula in 2000 and in Portorož in 2002. He took part in many open state championships. He won the open championships in Germany ( Stein bei Nürnberg 2002, Rosengarten-Sottorf 2006, Aalen- Unterkochen 2009), the Netherlands ( Nunspeet 2000), Serbia and Montenegro (2004, Belgrade 2005), Slovakia ( Bratislava 2001, Komárno 2003, Bratislava 2004, Bratislava 2005, Šaľa 2006), the Czech Republic ( Prague 2000, Prague 2001, Havířov 2003, Prague 2004, Brno 2005) and the United Kingdom ( Oakham 2005, Oakham 2007, Oakham 2008). He also won the 1st Grand Prix 2003 in Warsaw, Open 2004 in Serock , Poland and Belgrade, Open 2005 in Belgrade and Gdynia and 2006 in Jadwisin, Poland and Pardubice. He won the Polish individual championship in solving chess problems 16 times: in 1992 and 1993 in Warsaw, 1997 and 1998 in Serock, 1999, 2000 and 2001 in Sokołów Podlaski , 2002 in Warsaw, 2003 in Wroclaw , 2004 in Jadwisin near Serock, 2005 in Gdynia, 2006 in Jadwisin near Serock, 2008 in Gniezno , 2009 in Serock, 2010 in Łódź and 2015 in Puławy .

Title and rating

Since 2002 he has held the title of Grand Master in solving chess problems. Its current rating is 2767 (as of July 1, 2012), which puts it in first place in the PCCC world rankings. His highest rating to date for solving chess problems was 2860, with a gap of 41 points on Georgi Evsejew , this is the highest rating that a solver in this discipline has achieved.

Murdzia's wife also solves chess compositions.

Tournament chess

In 1991 and 1995 he won the Polish U20 individual championship, and in 1993 he finished second in the Polish U18 championship.

He was Polish youth team champion with Gedania Danzig in 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993, and now he plays for SKF Korsarz Gdynia . He took part in the Polish team championship from 1993 to 1997 with Gedania Danzig , in 1998 with MKS Rymer Niedobczyce , in 2003, 2018 and 2020 with ASSz Miedź Legnica and in 2013 with MLKS Impact Team Ostróda . In Germany, he played with the second team of Hamburger SK in the 2. Bundesliga since the 2004/05 season he plays for the SV Griesheim and was with this in the seasons 2010/11 , 2012/13 and 2013/14 in the 1. Bundesliga represented. In the Czech Extra League he played for TŻ Třinec from 2004 to 2011 , and since then for Slavoj Ostrava-Poruba .

He has held the title of International Master since 1994 . He made grandmaster norms in 1998 at an open in Świdnica and in 2003 at a round-robin tournament in Legnica.
