Michael Pfannkuche (from 1982 to 1994 Michael Pfannkuche-Winkler ; born September 1, 1956 in Münster ) is a grandmaster and multiple world champion in solving chess compositions .

successes

Pfannkuche was individual world champion in solving chess compositions in Budapest (42 participants) in 1988 and in Bratislava (74 participants) in 1993. In 1987, 1988, 1993, 2000 and 2002 he was part of the team of the Federal Republic of Germany when it became team world champion. In addition, his team won five silver and five bronze medals at world championships. He is two-time international German champion as well as five-time German single champion, two-time Belgian champion and multiple Dutch champion. On December 7, 2005 , he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for his achievements by the German Federal President's Office , represented at the award ceremony by Interior Minister Wolfgang Schäuble .

Pfannkuche has also been active as a chess composer since before 1970 and for many years headed a section for chess composition in his club magazine.

Pfannkuche played party chess with his club, SK Münster 32 , between 1970 and 1988, including the 1983/84 season in the 1st Bundesliga and several years in the 2nd Bundesliga . In the 1st Bundesliga, Pfannkuche's team beat the then champions Bayern Munich . He was once a master of the Münsterland chess association.

Private

Pfannkuche worked at the University of Münster, where he became a mathematician in 1982. He received his doctorate in 1988 on the subject of best Φ-approximants in the non-symmetrical case in mathematics and is now a systems programmer.

Pfannkuche is married. The couple have five children.
