Sottorf ( Low German Sottörp ) is part of the Lower Saxony municipality Rosengarten south of Hamburg . With around 525 inhabitants (as of spring 2004), Sottorf is the second smallest place in the municipality (after Iddensen ).

history

On July 1, 1972, Sottorf was incorporated into the municipality of Nenndorf. The name of this municipality was officially changed to Rosengarten on July 18, 1973 .

oil

From 1937 to 1944, 5,177 tons of viscous crude oil were extracted from a depth of 368 meters. Originally, they were looking for a suitable drilling site for a well and came across oil.

Part of the strategic oil reserve has been stored here since 1968 . The nine caverns of Nord West Kavernengesellschaft mbH are now only partially filled and contain 25,000 m 3 of crude oil and petroleum products.

societies

The Sottorfer Dorfjugend is an association of unmarried teenagers and young adults from Sottorf and Vahrendorf-Siedlung. She organizes the Faslamsfest and the Easter bonfire, helps with village events and weddings and distributes the traditional "May bushes" on Whit Saturday. Contrary to the original tradition that only unmarried men belong to the village youth (see Village Youth ), girls and women are also allowed in Sottorf and many of the other surrounding villages. Entry into the village youth usually takes place after confirmation .

Sottorf can be reached from the direction of Hamburg and the federal highway 7 at the junction Hamburg-Marmstorf and the neighboring village of Vahrendorf via Kreisstraße 26. This continues to Leversen, from where you can reach the federal motorway 261 at the Tötensen junction. At the Spritzenhaus and Brandheide stops, there is a connection to Hamburg-Harburg station and Klecken station every two hours . This is provided with line 4244 of the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund . The stops in the village are also served on school days. There are connections to Vahrendorf, Ehestorf, Nenndorf, Buchholz idN and Hittfeld. Radfernweg Hamburg-Bremen leads from Vahrendorf by Sottorf and the rose garden on to Bach Heide .
