Rosengarten ( Roosengoorn in Low German ) is a unified municipality located south of Hamburg in the Harburg district in Lower Saxony ( Germany ).

Geographical location
The municipality of Rosengarten, which borders Hamburg in the north, is located north of Buchholz and roughly in the center of the Harburg mountains .
Neighboring communities
Rosengarten borders the following neighboring communities (clockwise, starting in the north): Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (own federal state ), Seevetal , Harmstorf , Bendestorf , Jesteburg , Buchholz in the Nordheide and Neu Wulmstorf (all district of Harburg in Lower Saxony).

Incorporations
On July 1, 1972, the communities Eckel, Ehestorf, Emsen, Iddensen, Klecken, Leversen, Nenndorf, Sottorf, Tötensen and Vahrendorf were merged to form the unitary community Nenndorf.

On July 18, 1973, the name of the community Nenndorf was officially changed to Rosengarten .

The unemployment rate in Rosengarten is around three percent. Of the 12,871 residents, 2,290 residents are under 18 and 2,720 residents are over 65 years old. More than 97% of the Rosengarten residents are German citizens. Less than three percent have a foreign nationality. 8.6% of the residents have a migration background. More women (51%) than men (49%) live in the community.

In the Rosengarten parish, the Evangelical Lutheran Christians are assigned to the parishes of Klecken / Nenndorf and Vahrendorf. The Erlöserkirche Vahrendorf belongs to the church district Hamburg-Ost ( Sprengel Hamburg and Lübeck ) of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany , the other parishes to the church district Hittfeld ( Sprengel Lüneburg ) of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover . The nearest Catholic churches are in Buchholz in the Nordheide and in Seevetal. About 48% are Protestant, about 6% Catholic and 46% are non-denominational or belong to another religion.

Municipal council
The council of the community Rosengarten consists of 30 councilors. This is the specified number for a municipality with a population between 12,001 and 15,000. The full-time mayor of the Rosengarten community is Dirk Seidler ( non-party ). In the last mayoral election on May 25, 2014, he was elected with 74.6% of the vote. His opponent Thies Ockelmann received 25.4%. The turnout was 57.9%. Seidler took up his post on November 1, 2014, replacing the previous incumbent Dietmar Stadie (SPD), who was no longer running.

Culture and sights
The community Rosengarten is a member of the regional park Rosengarten to promote the cultural offer .
Museums
- The open-air museum on the Kiekeberg is a museum of cultural history.
- The museum cartwright in Langenrehm teaches the traditional craft of the cartwright.

- The Black Mountains Wildlife Park with around 100 species and around 1000 animals.
archeology
- The approximately 5200 year old, 48 meters long and 6 meters wide barrow in the Kleckerwald on Bendestorfer Straße between Klecken and Buchholz.
- Several forest boundaries in today's Rosengarten Regional Park were marked with boundary stones from the 15th century . Of the original 250 stones, almost 160 are known today. They stand today as cultural monuments ( construction and art monuments : Small Monuments ) under monument protection . Ten of these stones, eight of which have been around since the end of July 2018, are also listed as natural monuments in the Harburg district: ND WL 00012–00021 ; At the end of July 2018, the theft of ND WL 00017 was noticed.

Sports
- The HL Buchholz 08-Rosengarten played 2010/11 and 2015/16 in the women's handball league. The team has been playing in the 2nd Bundesliga since the 2016/17 season .
- TuS Nenndorf has existed since 1921.
- The FC Rosengarten, as a merged football department, was founded in 2012 from the clubs SC Klecken, TV Vahrendorf and Turnerschaft Westerhof, which still exist as individual clubs.

Economy and Infrastructure
traffic
The town of Tötensen is connected to Hamburg by motorway . The A 261 runs past Tötensen and connects the A 7 and the A 1 to the south-east of Hamburg, relieving traffic. The Hamburg – Bremen long-distance cycle route runs through the town of Ehestorf ; the "Heidschnuckenweg" long-distance hiking trail, inaugurated in 2012, leads from Hamburg-Fischbek through the Rosengarten Forest and Lüneburg Heath to Celle.
The localities Klecken and Eckel have a connection to the city of Hamburg with the Klecken train station; the journey from Klecken train station to Hamburg central station takes around 20 minutes. Klecken train station is within the HVV in the greater area.

The highest building in the municipality rises up on the Gannaberg in Langenrehm : the Rosengarten telecommunications tower , which is operated by T-Systems . The public DVB-T bouquets as well as the radio programs NDR 1 Lower Saxony (103.2 MHz / 20 kW), Radio ffn (100.6 MHz / 20 kW), Hit-Radio Antenne (105.1 MHz / 20 kW) are broadcast kW) and N-Joy (91.4 MHz / 0.3 kW). Due to the height of the transmitter, it has a very large range.
