Milan Vukcevich

Milan Radoje Vukcevich ( Vukčević ) (born March 11, 1937 in Belgrade ; † May 10, 2003 in Shaker Heights ) was a Yugoslavian grand master of chess composition , a strong chess player and an important researcher.

Vukcevich was a strong party gamer. He represented his home country Yugoslavia at the Chess Olympiad in Leipzig in 1960 and took third place with his team behind the Soviet Union and the USA . In 1975 he also came third at the United States Championship in Oberlin .

Milan Vukcevich had the title of FIDE Master since 1983 and the title of Grand Master in Chess Composition since 1988. In 1998 he was inducted into the US Chess Hall of Fame .

Private

Vukcevich moved to the United States in the 1960s , where he lived in northern Ohio . He received his PhD in Metallurgy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . At the Case Western Reserve University Vukcevich worked as assistant and later worked as a researcher for General Electric , where he became Chief Scientist rise. He made significant theoretical research in the field of lighting. Most recently he was a professor at the University of Arizona . Vukcevich died on May 10, 2003 as a result of complications from a tumor that had metastasized .
