Gerhard Güllich

Gerhard Güllich (born March 1, 1938 ) is a Rear Admiral a. D. of the German Navy and retired intelligence officer.

Career

Güllich served as a marine from 1958 to 1969. In 1969 he switched to the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), where he was led under the code name Stammberger . From 1991 to 1996 he was Head of Department II (Technical Procurement) with the rank of Rear Admiral and at the end of 1995 was appointed Deputy President Konrad Porzner . After his resignation, he took over provisional management of the BND from April 1 to June 4, 1996. Although he had long been considered the most promising candidate for the successor, he renounced the office because Chancellor Helmut Kohl had repeatedly postponed his appointment. In June 1996 he was given temporary retirement .
