Bruno Guntram Wilhelm Kahl (born July 12, 1962 in Essen ) is a German lawyer . He is President of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND).

education and study

On April 27, 2016, Bruno Kahl was appointed President of the Federal Intelligence Service by the Federal Government ( Merkel III Cabinet ) as Gerhard Schindler's successor . His period of service began on July 1, 2016. His successor in the BMF was Johannes Schmalzl .

Kahl is Colonel of the Reserve . He is considered a close confidante of Schäuble, a man of low tones, discreet, loyal and hardworking. Before his appointment as BND president, Kahl had no contact with intelligence work. His appointment came as a surprise.

Private

Kahl is the son of the physicist Bernhard Kahl and the librarian Ute Kahl, nee Schoenitz and has two younger siblings. He has two children and has been widowed since 2008.
