Werner Gatzer (born November 4, 1958 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a German lawyer and political official and has been State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance since 2005 .

Life

After graduating from high school, Gatzer studied law in Cologne from 1978 to 1984 . During this time he became a member of the SPD in 1982 . After completing his legal clerkship , he worked as a consultant at the regional tax offices in Nuremberg and Cologne. In 1990 Gatzer moved to the Federal Ministry of Finance in Bonn as a civil servant .

There he worked as a consultant in various departments in the budget department until 1998, before he was appointed head of department for “Parliamentary and Cabinet Affairs” in 1998. In 2000 he took over a sub-department in the budget department and in 2002 became the head of the management staff of the Ministry of Finance. From May 1, 2005 to November 30, 2005, Gatzer was Managing Director of the Federal Republic of Germany - Finanzagentur GmbH , until he was appointed State Secretary on December 1, 2005, succeeding Manfred Overhaus .

Together with Rainer Bomba , he has been representing the Federal Republic of Germany on the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH since March 11, 2011 , and is also a member of the Deutsche Post AG Supervisory Board on behalf of the shareholders' representatives . Gatzer is a member of the Senate of the Max Planck Society and on the advisory board of 1. FC Köln .

From January 1, 2018 to February 28, 2018, he was briefly CEO of DB Station & Service , succeeding André Zeug . Since March 1, 2018, he has been State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance again. Bernd Koch succeeded him at DB Station & Service on May 1, 2018. Gatzer is now a member of the supervisory board of Deutsche Bahn.

Werner Gatzer is chairman of the supervisory board of PD - consultants for the public sector .

Werner Gatzer is married and has four children.
