Manfred Overhaus

Manfred Overhaus (born June 8, 1939 in Hamburg ; † August 26, 2019 ) was a German civil servant who was State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance from 1993 to 2004 .

Life

After graduating from the Hebbelschule , studying economics and completing his doctorate in Kiel , he had been employed by the Federal Ministry of Finance since 1968, starting as a consultant in the budget department in the department for medium-term financial planning and economic management of the federal budget, later as head of the general department for the Federal budget , as a sub-department head, as head of the budget department and since 1993 as State Secretary (successor to Peter Klemm ). He was responsible for the departments of the federal budget, customs duties , excise duties , spirits monopoly , federal properties, federal holdings as well as the area of ​​the successor organizations of the Treuhandanstalt . An extension of his term of office was denied. He later went to RAG as a consultant .

He was considered a gray eminence and a model of the apolitical and loyal official.

After retiring, the father of two sons lived in Sankt Augustin .
