British Hero of the Holocaust

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The British Hero of the Holocaust Medal honors British lifeguards during the Nazi persecution of Jews . It was first awarded to Brown in 2010 by the British government . Subsequently, it could mostly only be handed over to relatives of deceased persons afterwards. This is a peculiarity and innovation in the British religious system. The silver medal bears the inscription “in the service of humanity” . In 2010, 27 people were honored for the first time, two of whom were still alive.

The honor related to citizens of England and the associated areas can be compared in part with the German term der Judenretter (no state name) and the Israeli award as Righteous Among the Nations by the Israeli memorial Yad Vashem .
