Britonia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Britonic settlement in the 6th century.

Britonia is the historical name of a settlement in Galicia and Asturias in northwestern Spain . In the late 5th and early 6th centuries AD, part of the British Celtic population fled Britain from the Anglo-Saxons . Around the same time, Aremorica (especially what is now Brittany ) in Gaul was settled by emigrating British Celts .

What little is known about Britonia comes from church sources. The British settlements were recognized as a separate diocese at the Council of Lugo in 569. Mailoc was installed as the first bishop of Britonia in the 2nd Council of Braga (572).
