Broadsands
The Neolithic Passage Tomb of Broadsands (also Hedgebank - German "Wallhecke" called) is located 630 m northwest of the Elberry Farm, north of Churston Ferrers, south of Paignton in Devon in England .
The chamber has a 3.8 meter long and 1.2 meter wide side corridor made of alternating orthostats and dry stone masonry in a cairn originally around 12 m in diameter, which was later reduced to around 9.0 × 7.0 meters. The polygonal chamber measures 3.35 × 2.1 meters with a maximum height of 1.6 meters. It was built from eleven local limestone orthostats with additions of horizontal dry stone masonry. Seven of the orthostats remained in situ , while one of the huge capstones lies upright on the southern side.
The excavation revealed evidence of the primary burial of two adults and an infant associated with Neolithic pottery. The secondary burial of a young adult with late Neolithic pottery took place on the stone floor. There is evidence of ritual cleansing prior to reuse and disruption during the Middle Ages when the tomb was tied into a hedge that marks the parish boundary between Paignton and Churston Ferrers.
