The residential building Bronckhorststraat 11–37, Bartholomeus Ruloffsstraat 15–19, Joh.M. Coenenstraat 8–26 in the Oud-Zuid district of Amsterdam was built between 1922 and 1924 based on designs by the Dutch architect Jan Frederik Staal (1879–1940). The four-storey building, built on a U-shaped floor plan around an inner courtyard, was created in the course of the expansion of the city of Plan Zuid, which had been implemented since 1917 . It is considered exemplary work of expressionist Amsterdam School and is, like the neighboring Huize Lydia , since 1996 as Rijksmonument under monument protection .

The engineer JH Struebe was responsible for the concrete construction of the apartment block on the Bronckhorststraat, which is clad with bricks in two different shades of brown. Of the many details of the facade designed by the architect Staal, the block-shaped lattice windows of the stairwells at Joh.M. Coenenstraat as well as the protruding wall area on the corner of Bartholomeus Ruloffsstraat. The building owner was the Samenleving housing cooperative founded by municipal and state officials , which built a total of seven blocks south of Roelof Hartplein, including the Harmoniehof (1920-1923) and Het Nieuwe Huis (1927-1928).
