Act

Haywards research focuses on the intersection between sustainable development , youth , climate change and community engagement .

Hayward was one of the lead authors of the special report 1.5 ° C global warming published in 2018 by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). She is also currently one of the coordinating lead authors in the subject area “Cities and Infrastructure” of the Sixth Assessment Report of the IPCC .

In the public debate about ways out of the climate crisis , Hayward describes herself as an "unintentional activist" for professional reasons . She is now actively participating in the debate to point out that climate change is not a problem of the future, but that there is an urgent need for action in the present. In order to avert a climate catastrophe , she is calling for a much more ambitious climate policy , both worldwide and in her home country. She speaks openly about the frustration of many climate scientists at not being heard in time, and about the resulting psychological stress and grief in the face of the approaching catastrophe, but also about the remaining hope.
