Brooke Hanson

Brooke Louise Hanson (born March 18, 1978 in Manly , New South Wales ) is an Australian swimmer.

Hanson began swimming at the age of four. In 1994 she was the youngest member of the Australian national team at the Commonwealth Games , where she was fourth in the 200 m chest. Then began an eight-year dry spell for Brooke Hanson. It was not until the Commonwealth Games in 2002 that she was able to qualify for the national team again. At the 2003 World Swimming Championships in Barcelona , she won the silver medal in the 50m breaststroke. She celebrated her greatest successes a year later at the Olympic Games in Athens , when she won the gold medal in the 4 × 100 m medley relay and silver in the 100 m breaststroke. At the swimming world championships in 2005 in Montréal , she came in several finals, but could only win a bronze medal over 50 m chest.

In June 2007 she suffered a severe electric shock in an accident at a trade fair in Australia.
