Broomhall, north facade

Broomhall is a Scottish mansion three miles southwest of Dunfermline .

The house is the seat of the Earls of Elgin and Kincardine. The family goes back to Robert the Bruce . One of the most famous family members was Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin and 11th Earl of Kincardine . He became famous for the Elgin Marbles named after him . Between 1796 and 1799 he had Broomhall redesigned and expanded by the architect Thomas Harrison in the taste of the time. The current building dates mainly from this time and from renovations in the early 19th century. Only the north facade still includes parts of the previous building, a house from the 1650s.
