Bruce Hayes
Lawrence ("Bruce") Hayes (born March 8, 1963 in San Antonio , Texas ) is a retired American swimmer . Hayes won gold three times at the 1983 Pan American Games in Caracas , Venezuela . In 1984 Hayes won a gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles , California , where his team set the world swimming record in the 4 × 200 meter freestyle .
In 1990, Hayes joined the New York Aquatics swim team and was the first Olympic gold medalist to take part in the Gay Games (1990 and 1994). Hayes lives in New York City .
