Bruce of Auchenbowie's House is a residential building in the Scottish city ​​of Stirling in the council area of the same name . In 1965 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

Bruce of Auchenbowie's House was built during the 16th century as a town house for the Auchenbowie- based line of Clan Bruce . In the course of the 18th and 19th centuries, both the interior and the exterior were significantly redesigned, which is why a more precise dating of the year of construction is difficult.

The building is on St John's Street in the historic center of Stirling. In the immediate vicinity are the Church of the Holy Rude , Cowane's Hospital , the Old City Prison and the Stirling Tolbooth . The masonry of the three-story building consists of roughly hewn rubble stone . It occupies a floor space of 13.9 m × 6.4 m. On the street side, a rounded stair tower protrudes 1.5 m from the facade. A total of four low doors lead into the interior of the building. Four windows are set in along the tower. These and the only window on the ground floor are designed as four to six-part lattice windows . The windows on the two upper floors, on the other hand, are twelve-part. The final gable roof is covered with gray slate. The east gable is designed as a stepped gable . Massive chimneys tower up at the gable. Links enters a hipped roof dormer out of the roof.
