history

The fountain at the White Stone was built in 1910 on the initiative of the Frankfurt entrepreneur and patron Gottfried Kleinschmidt . It is dedicated to the fallen soldiers of Eschersheim in the Franco-German War of 1870/71. Before the Second World War , the fountain was also known as the Hercules Fountain (not to be confused with the Hercules fountain in Frankfurt's old town ). At the end of 1945 the fountain lost its original Hercules sculpture.

When the Weißer Stein underground station was built in the 1960s, the fountain was moved a few meters to its current position. Before that he stood in front of the old schoolhouse in Eschersheim. In 2009 the local council 9 had the statue of Hercules reconstructed and put back on the fountain.
