The fountain of friendship is a fountain on Schumannplatz (formerly Karl-Marx-Platz ) in Zwickau . It has existed since 1986 and consists of stylized representations of the globe, volcano and earth. At the weekend, four LED bubble jets illuminate the fountain.
history
At the location of the fountain there was a Bismarck memorial from 1898 to 1943 and the Zwickau Pavilion of German-Soviet Friendship from 1953 to 1986 .
The approximately 120 square meter paved complex is the second largest water feature in the city after the fountain at the Schwanenteich , contains 165 meters of piping inside and was designed by the artists Erika Matthes and Joachim Harbort . The first water flowed on August 21, 1986.
In 2010 the well had to be shut down because it had leaked and the water consumption reached an unacceptable level. From April to May 2014 it was repaired largely true to the original for 170,000 euros. Among other things, three time-controlled pumps now supply the various elements with sufficient water via plastic pipes.
