Balthasar Friedrich Edler von der Planitz came from the tribe of the noble family Edle von der Planitz, who lived in (Unter-) Auerbach . At the end of his life he lived on the knight's seat Göltzsch in Rodewisch , where he probably also died. In 1727 it is said about him:

“As soon as the years made him skilled in wielding arms, he accepted the war service, and throughout his life he always behaved gloriously, loyally and chivalrously, so he made himself especially popular with high potentates, as he did with them Burgraves of Plauen and Margraves of Meyßen as councilor and captain to the court did loyal service for many years. Letter of purchase (excerpt) from 1563

In 1563 he wanted to sell large parts of his possessions to Elector August von Sachsen. In addition to the villages of Schönheide and Stützengrün , these were Neustädtel and large forests around these towns on both sides of the Zwickauer Mulde up to the border with Bohemia. In the purchase letter of December 23, 1563, the motives for the sale were stated that it should take place because of "urgent debts" and to "get out of the debt burden". Between the sale offer of 30,000 guilders, which he submitted at the Leipzig spring fair in 1563, the inspection initiated by the elector, in particular of the forests offered, and the evaluation of the financial and services of the three localities by the bailiff Hans Todt of the Schwarzenberg office and the agreement about Balthasar Friedrich von der Planitz died the purchase price - probably in June or July. The purchase agreement was signed by his heirs on December 23, 1563. Planitz's financial problems must have been so great that he asked the elector for a loan of 5,000 guilders - granted on the purchase. The purchase came at a price of 28,300 guilders. It was a very good deal for the elector because the forests were worth many times the purchase price, given the need for wood for mines and ore processing. For only one pfennig, the elector got twelve trees.

In return for monetary payments and services - compulsory labor - he allocated geographically precisely defined areas as fiefs and determined the rights and obligations of the residents in detail. He also granted the right to brew beer and trade in wine. The village was also allowed to exercise low and high jurisdiction.
