Fountain in the Herdergarten

The fountain in Herdergarten or the Herdergarten fountain is located in the garden of the former home of the German poet Johann Gottfried Herder in Weimar . It is not an installation from the classical era, but was built as part of the cultural city projects for 1999, when Weimar was European Capital of Culture and on the occasion of the 250th birthday of Johann Gottfried Herder in 1994. The well basin of the tube well is circular on the surface. However, the concrete pool is a hemisphere and is set into the ground. The water is supplied through the raven grove and is poured out through a stainless steel pipe with a disc-like distributor pointing downwards in the middle of the pool. The fountain was installed in 1998. Round benches are grouped around the fountain, which lies on the central axis of the garden.

According to Hans-Joachim Leithner, the garden itself could be reconstructed in 1994 based on the letters he left behind and with the help of an old city map for Herder's 250th birthday. In contrast to the house, which is still the seat of the superintendent today, the garden can be visited by the public.

There is a fountain right next to the Herderhaus itself, the so-called Herderhausbrunnen near the passage to the garden on the old property boundary on the left, with which the fountain in the Herdergarten must not be confused. Who, in turn, was the owner of this well is unknown.
